The S-Works Torch is the latest version of Specialized's S-Works shoes, which have been used in some of the most glorious victories in cycling history. It combines Body Geometry and data science to create a shoe that is meticulously crafted down to the last detail. It features a supreme fit that is so comfortable you'll forget you're wearing it.

The S-Works Torch upper features data-driven refinements to improve fit and performance. The BOA® cables are now more forward and angled to prevent lift at the ball of the foot. This eliminates uncomfortable pressure and allows you to extract more power. Materials are designed to conform to the shape of your foot and move naturally in areas where comfort is needed. Data-driven reinforcements hold your foot in place and transfer power most efficiently.

Using data collected from over 100,000 scans of riders' feet using Retül technology, the team found that two carbon outsoles, one regular and one wider, were optimal for accommodating a wide range of foot shapes. An I-Beam is built into the midfoot and rearfoot to increase stiffness and strength without the need for additional braces. This resulted in a 20-gram weight saving in the outsole, improved efficiency, and quicker power transfer.

The new left and right-specific heel cup was also developed based on Retül biomechanical data to maintain the natural knee alignment, providing the support riders prefer, while providing more room around the Achilles for added comfort.

■The secret to greater comfort, reduced risk of injury, and more efficient power delivery is the ergonomically designed and scientifically proven Body Geometry features. The outsole features a vertical arch support, varus wedge, and a personalizable insole with a metatarsal button. These three features work in harmony to align the hip, foot, and knee while reducing knee wobble and allowing blood flow to the toes.
■Based on data collected by Retül technology scanning the rider's feet, the new carbon outsole is 4mm wider at the ball of the foot than the S-Works 7.
■The new carbon outsole is 20g lighter than the S-Works 7 due to structural optimization. The built-in I-Beam provides the same stiffness as the previous model.
■Based on Retül data, the new last has an upper that is tilted toward the ball of the little toe, giving it a shape that fits the rider's foot better.
■The left and right heels are designed to support the medial side of the foot while reducing the amount of material on the lateral side, resulting in a lower heel.
